How To Pay Adoption Costs

Having to pay adoption costs is a big part of the reason many parents are hesitant to build their families through adoption. The economy is shaky and adoption costs are so high, they're frightening. Is adoption even possible?

The answer is a resounding yes. If you can buy a car, you can certainly pay for an adoption. my three children

What Will It Cost?

The cost of an international adoption will depend on many factors, including the country you choose, the agency and the children you are adopting. At the time this page was written, you could expect the cost to range anywhere from $19,000 to $35,000 dollars and up.

Don't let the numbers frighten you. It is possible to pay adoption costs. Here are several options available to you to help finance your adoption.

Loans

The easiest way tp pay adoption costs is to take out a loan, and many people choose this option. You will need some sort of equity of lasting value, such as your home. You will also have to have a good credit rating to be able to qualify for a loan. Go for as short of a payback term as possible, such as a five-year loan as opposed to a ten-year loan. Even though the payments will be higher, they will be well worth it, as you will end up paying lower interest in the long run and will have the loan paid off sooner.

When looking at a loan option, take the time to shop around and find the best rate of interest. A difference between six percent and seven percent makes a huge difference over a number of years.

And while taking out a loan may seem like the only option available, trust me: it's not. There are many other ways to pay adoption costs without taking out a loan. A loan is a form of financial bondage. You don't want to start parenthood owing more money than you have to. I would urge you to think long and hard before taking out a loan and exhaust every option before taking this route.

At the very least, pay as much of your adoption costs as possible through other routes before taking out a loan.

Budgeting

It doesn't matter how low your income is, you can always cut back on costs and save a ton of money in the process. Rick and I paid for two adoptions without going into debt by being careful with our money and living frugally. And what is Rick's profession? A doctor? A lawyer? Rick is a carpenter working for the state. We're certainly not rich. If we could pay adoption costs without going into debt, you can too.
