Gift Basket Fundraiser

A gift basket fundraiser is a creative and fun way to raise funds for your international adoption.

Where to Use Them

The beauty of a gift basket fundraiser is its versatility. You can sell raffle tickets for a basket at your office, or at another fundraiser. Or you can take orders for custom-made gift baskets during the holidays.

You can even make up dozens of gift baskets and then hold a gift basket auction. Visit local businesses and get donations for gift baskets, whether it's a fast-food basket, a pampering gift basket, complete with a coupon for a free massage, or even a travel basket with a vacation package or discount coupons.

What Goes Into a Gift Basket

Mention the words gift basket, and most people think of cheese and crackers, but really anything can go into a gift basket, from candy to toys to soothing lotions to embroidered oven mitts.

Basket...Or Not

You don't even need to use baskets for your gift basket fundraiser, although that is the most popular way. You can also use attractive pottery, ceramic flower pots (gardening theme, anyone?) or decorative boxes.

Find a Theme

No matter what type of container you use, do pick a theme for each basket you make for your gift basket fundraiser. Then select items according to that theme.

Make it Attractive

Here are some tips on how to make your basket look appealing: Order packing peanuts and fill the bottom of your basket with them to make your basket seem fuller. This will also make it easier to see the items in the basket. Over the peanuts place shredded decorative paper. Be sure and fill your basket to overflowing with the tissue. When you begin adding items to your basket, the paper will flatten down.

Then begin arranging the items in the basket. The larger items should be either in the middle of the basket or toward the back. As you add items to the basket, arrange them so they look balanced. You can hold the larger items in place using double-sided tape.

While you want the shredded paper to show through, you can also add small items such as wrapped candy or anything small that is related to your theme to fill in the gaps.

Closing Things Up

Buy large cellophane bags from a local craft shop and put the basket into the bag with the opening at the top of the basket. Tie the opening shut with a ribbon, making sure that part of the plastic is fluffed out over the ribbon. If any of the bag sticks out at the bottom, tape it tight to the basket. And that's how to make an appealing basket for your gift basket fundraiser.
