International Infant Adoption
Tips For Caring For Your New Baby

An international infant adoption is what most people think of when they begin pursing adoption. Obviously, that's not the only option out there, but there are many babies available for adoption.

I Just Want to Adopt a Baby

Then by all means, do. Not everyone is called or capable to adopt an older child or sibling group, so don't feel guilty if you want to adopt an infant. If your heart's desire is to hold in your arms a baby of your very own, then pursue an international infant adoption.

Can I Bring Home a Newborn?

Unfortunately no. Because of all the paperwork involved, it's highly unlikely you'll be able to bring home a newborn, but your international infant adoption could take place when your baby is about seven months old.

Feeding Your New Baby

Don't be surprised if you find your baby is allergic to cow's milk formula. This is common, especially with children from Asian countries. You can use a soy formula, or you can feed your baby a formula made with raw goat's milk. With a little patience and persistence, you can also breastfeed your baby, providing her with the best possible milk.

Keep Her Close

Once your adoption is complete, and you finally get to hold your little angel, hold her constantly. This will help her bond to you and feel more secure. You can also carry your baby with a tie-on cloth. This will keep her close and free up your arms for other things. You can also make your own baby sling. Make Baby Stuff has some patterns here.

Don't Share Her

After waiting so long to complete your international infant adoption and finally bring her home, you may be tempted to allow everyone you know to hold your new baby. But because you want your new baby to bond with you and your spouse, don't let too many others hold her until she is firmly attached to you.

The Same Goes For Feedings

By meeting your baby's needs in an intimate way, such as feedings, you are proving to her that you will be there for her, and that she can trust you. So make sure, you and your spouse are the only ones who feed her - at least for the first few months.
