Adoptees Memory Book

Adoptees memory book is a great way to explain adoption to your small child, provide opportunities for discussions and provide a keepsake your child will enjoy and treasure for years to come. But while we all know we should create a life book, we're often slow to start one and take even longer finishing it because the task seems so overwhelming.

Fortunately, there are some great products and books out there that will help make the task of creating a life book for your child both easier and enjoyable.

Getting Off to a Good Start

The hardest part of writing your child's life book is getting started. A great resource that will help jump start that project is Beth O'Malley's book, LifeBooks : Creating a Treasure for the Adopted Child . It's a how-to on writing a life book that also provides tips on how bring up difficult topics with your child including birthparents and how your child feels about his or her birthfamily.

This book is a great resource to help you get started.
The book will inspire you to get started writing, and when it's time to assemble your project you'll find that there are some fun and creative resources available.

Publish Your Adoptees Memory Book

Both Baby Story for babies and toddlers and IlluStory are fun kits that make it easy to create a real book your child and look at and enjoy again and again. The kit provides several design pages allowing you to arrange and tape all of your favorite pictures along with memorabilia and decorate them with either stickers provided in the kit or your own stickers.

Then you write your own story to accompany the pictures, fill out an order form and mail off your project in a prepaid envelope. In two weeks you'll get your photos and memorabilia back along with a finished, 7" x 9" professionally typeset hardback book.
Kits like this one are a less labor intensive way to make a memory book for your child.

Want Something a Little Easier?

If you feel intimidated at the prospect of creating your adoptees memory book from scratch, an easier option is My Family, My Journey: A Baby Book for Adoptive Families. This nice thing about this adoption themed memory book is it has pages on different subjects with about half a page of blank space on each one.

The different pages cover topics including what your family was like before the adoption, why you decided to adopt, who helped you along the way on your adoption journey, when you got the referral and the first time you met your child.

It's a great way to get the creative juices flowing so you can provide memories and a record your child will love.
