Creative Garage Sale Fundraiser

We coordinated two garage sales to raise funds for our adoption. These weren't your ordinary run-of-the-mill junk fests netting a couple of hundred dollars. With a little leg work and creative thinking, we were able to raise over $3000 between the two!

We put the word out with our friends and neighbors that we would gladly come by and pick up anything they wanted to donate to our cause.

In addition, for our second garage sale, I attended local garage sales and asked what they were going to do with the stuff they had left over.

If they said they were going to donate it to the local charity, I asked them if they would consider donating to our fundraiser garage sale instead.

Though they wouldn't get a tax write-off, several were glad to help our cause and were happy to let us pick-up their junk so they could be done with it.

So, with plenty of inventory, we set to pricing. We kept the prices low...nothing over a dollar or two.

We also offered iced drinks and cookies for sale. A donation bucket next to a sign stating the purpose of our sale earned us quite a bit as well.

Finally, for our second sale, we contacted our local small-town paper and asked them to do a little story about our adoption and fundraising garage sale. Both sales were busy, fun, and successful!
