Adoption Fundraising Letter

Adoption fundraising letter is a great way to let friends and family members know you are adopting and how they can help bring your child home. If you've never composed a fundraising letter for adoption, here are some tips to get you started.

Be Friendly

When writing your adoption fundraising letter for friends and family, remember to whom you are speaking: namely people you care about and who care about you. Make sure your personality comes through when you're writing your letter. If this is hard for you, think about using a simple tape recorder. Turn the recorder on, pretend someone is sitting in front of you and start talking. Say hello, what you've been up to lately, and why you are asking for funds. Then put the end result on paper.

composing a letter

Be Specific

In your adoption fundraising letter, ask for a specific dollar amount, such as $25 per family, but don't just limit your request to money. You can also use this letter to solicit items for one of your upcoming garage sale, baked goods for your bake sale or volunteers to help with your benefit dinner. List all of the upcoming fundraising events you plan to hold and ask if they want to help.

And finally, don't forget to ask for prayer. The prayers of others are just as powerful and important - if not more so - than money, donations or time.

Focus on Your Child

Don't talk about the fact that you don't have enough money for your adoption. Instead, emphasize that you are working toward providing a home and loving parents for your child.

Include a Picture

A picture is worth a thousand words, which is why so many adoption agencies have adoption photo listings. So if you have already received a referral, have copies of your child's picture made and include a copy with your letter. Friends and family will realize in a powerful way that they are helping a child in need.

End on a Positive Note

Be sure to say thanks both for their donations and their time. Even if a reader chooses not to contribute, he or she did take the time to read your letter, a real gift in these crazy busy times. End on a positive note by wishing your readers a happy summer, fall, Christmas, Spring or whatever else is appropriate at the time your write your letter.

Other Helpful Sources

Ask many couples why they don't adopt, and they'll say finances are what are holding them back. But it doesn't have to be that way. My husband and I had a limited income, yet we were able to adopt three children, including one child from Guatemala without going into debt. You can too. Here's how.
