Adopted Children and Parents Who Raise Them

Adopted children and parents who raise them are no different from any other relationship between a parent and child. It's not biology that makes a relationship, but rather time, devotion and love. Here is one adopted person's story. - Editor

Adopted Children and Parents
Adoption from Djibouti, Africa

I was adopted from Djibouti. My mother and father could no longer have any more children due to my mother's birth complications with my older sister. They waited 4 years to adopt me.

Adopted Children and Parents
Extremely Close

I do not know a lot about my birth mother because I was adopted when I was a baby. I haven't looked for information either. My parents may have it, but I have never asked. I am very close to my parents. They, in my eyes, are my REAL parents. I love them and they love me and nothing can change that. They could be no closer to me even if I was their true flesh and blood.

I have never returned to my birth country and do not wish too. I know nothing of that place. I would rather visit Australia and see the Great Barrier Reef. If so, are you friends, relations? I do not have any siblings that I know of. As I stated earlier, my parents might know, but I would never ask them, it would make me seem ungrateful.

Adopted Children and Parents
And Adoption

I would definitely consider adoption and will probably end up adopting. There are many children in this world that need the love and care that only comes from a true family.

My parents are white. I am black. I get a lot of weird looks sometimes and a few questions from people at school when they see my parents. It doesn't bother me; it makes me feel special. Just because I'm black and they are white doesn't mean anything. We are all people.

More Information on Adopted Children and Parents

Adopted children who are now grown can tell us a lot about how to raise an adopted child. Here are some tips.

Most adoption stories are told from the parent's perspective. It was truly refreshing, therefore, when I stumbled across the story of one adoptee who reunited with her family in Taiwan. Read more.

Children that are adopted; what's the rest of their story? What happens to them when they are grown, and how do they feel about being adopted? International Adoption Facts and Information is starting a new series where we hear the stories of adults who were adopted internationally as children. This is the first in that series.
